Responsibilities

The OEM Automation Engineer will provide remote and on-site applications support, technical support, and training to OEM customers. They act as a technical resource between Hamilton teams for technical questions, method development, and testing. They will coordinate with their Automation Consulting Engineer to communicate and track changes in customer needs and additional requests.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develops and tests application-specific protocols on Hamilton products based on requirements documentation provided by the OEM customer or Hamilton OEM Sales/Project Management team.
  • Optimizes or assists OEM customers in the optimization of liquid handling performance of OEM applications.
  • Documents applications developed for a project, both within the script and as OEM customer-facing documentation, when necessary.
  • Troubleshoots, tests, and creates programming tools to support the needs of OEM customers.
  • Travels to OEM customer sites when needed to provide or maintain support for OEM customer application development.
  • Provides information, support materials, and training to the OEM customers with the goal of making their development team self-sufficient and capable of providing independent support for their customers, such as platform-specific or application-specific training.
  • Exhibits strong organizational skills and maintains effective communication on progress and findings.
  • Works independently, but consults the OEM Applications/Automation Engineering team, management, OEM ACEs, and/or the Project Management team when necessary to understand and ensure proper customer support.
  • Works closely with the Project Management and R&D teams for applications related tasks and/or issues.
  • Evaluates project details and provides reasonably accurate effort and timeline estimates for assigned tasks.
  • Maintains professional relationships with co-workers and customers
  • Reports to OEM Automation Engineering Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to understand and apply programming and liquid handling principles.
  • Must be capable of technical troubleshooting and working hands-on with equipment.
  • Must be able to speak and present to an audience and demonstrate effective presentation and communication skills with technical and non-technical persons.
  • Must have good planning and customer relationship skills.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
  • Must be able to travel nationally and occasionally internationally. May require up to 25% travel

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or computer science is required.
  • Experience with programming languages and computer knowledge is desired.
  • Experience with laboratory automation, scientific application, and/or laboratory bench sciences preferred.
  • Experience training and troubleshooting in a technical environment preferred.
