Responsibilities

Directs and administers all functions of shop production under the supervision of the CEO of the Company.

  • Oversee all operations of the area assigned. 
  • Supervise all department personnel and functions, ensuring cooperation with Research and Development. 
  • Coordinate departmental activities with other departments to ensure maximum efficiency. 
  • Act with full authority on behalf of the company within the outlined scope.
  • Supervise production personnel through supervisors, ensuring the care of equipment, machine tools, supplies, and housekeeping.
  • Maintain efficient personnel, interpret company policy, train, discipline and ensure safe working conditions. 
  • Grant wage raises within set ranges, initiate purchase requests and report the need for new processes or equipment. 
  • Prepare and adhere to the budget for areas of responsibility. 
  • Ensure the quality of the company's products is maintained and improved. 
  • Contribute to company's profitability by managing the cost of sales
  • All other duties as assigned. 

Qualifications

  • Develop an organizational structure to ensure the maximum efficiency of the unit supervised. 
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and be able to interact harmoniously with all department personnel. 
  • Target and accomplish objectives to improve the COS via MBO's on an annual basis. 
  • Ensure through your management that open communication continues to improve between departments. 
  • Ensure that upper management is kept appraised of all issues effecting the operation of the department. 
  • Develop within your group, objectives to be achieved in the fiscal year and submit to the Chief Executive Officer for review and approval. 
  • Ensure that the objectives set for the fiscal year are continued, completed, and status reported. 
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies. 
  • Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and other regulatory standards (ISO, UL, CSA, etc.)
  • Proficiency in engineering software and tools. 

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Biotechnology, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in biotechnology manufacturing or a related industry.
  • Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing engineering teams. 
  • Strong knowledge of biotechnology processes, equipment, and regulatory requirements. 
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
